People are abuzz with news of everyone's favorite demigod, and we've collected all of the info from the farthest reaches of the Internet regarding the new adaption. Here's all of the hard facts, and some of the rumors, about the new Percy Jackson series.
13-year-old Walker Scobell is playing Percy.
Scobell had his breakout role last year with The Adam Project starring Ryan Reynolds, and was originally cast by Rick Riordan back in January. Riordan described Scobell as a, "Percy Jackson superfan" and assured fans that they would be more than happy with his performance. In a statement he published in April, Riordan wrote, "It was obvious to me and the rest of the team that Walker had the perfect mix of comedic timing, sweetness, rebelliousness, snark, and heroism to embody our hero Percy Jackson."
The first season will likely follow the first novel.
While specifics regarding the plot of the show are under wraps, audiences can expect the first batch of episodes to unravel the chain of events seen in The Lightning Thief. Directed by The Muppets director James Bobin, this story will likely follow Percy as he and his friends go on a quest to clear his name after Zeus accuses him of stealing his lightning bolt.
Rick Riordan is heavily involved.
Speaking of Rick Riordan, he's stated from the get-go that with this adaptation, he plans on being involved every step of the way. Unlike the movie series, which notoriously shut Riordan out of most of the filmmaking process, the series will be written by the mind who created the novels. Many fans, us included, are especially excited about this as we think it will hopefully lead to the series feeling more similar to the source material.
Production is set to start soon.
